From a Meta ad to WhatsApp follow-up

Meta Ads and WhatsApp: understand what happens after the ad

Handle enquiries from ads that open WhatsApp, retain the available source and follow their sales progress.

The Meta Ads connection and its metrics depend on enablement in ChatCol and access approved by Meta.

  • Available ad source
  • Conversations handled
  • Sales follow-up
  • Results with context

Understand the journey that starts with your ads

The click is only one part of the process. Review incoming enquiries, your team's responses and recorded outcomes using the evidence that is actually available.

Retain the enquiry source

ChatCol records the ad reference when Meta delivers it with the WhatsApp message. Missing details remain marked as not provided.

Review human response times

View response opportunities and time to the first human reply. Bot responses are distinguished from your team's replies.

Connect leads and outcomes

Your primary CRM provides opportunity progress and sales outcomes. First- or last-touch attribution uses contacts with linked evidence.

Review spend when available

With an authorised ad account and metrics enabled, review spend, impressions and clicks. CPA and ROAS also require comparable outcomes and spend.

Ads that open WhatsApp

From an incoming message to a sales outcome

Click-to-WhatsApp ads open a conversation from Facebook or Instagram. ChatCol organises what happens when the person sends a message.

Receive an enquiry from an ad

The contact writes to your eligible WhatsApp Business channel. ChatCol retains the ad reference Meta includes; opening the chat without sending a message does not create an enquiry.

Respond and collect the details

A flow, AI or a person responds to the enquiry. Your team can review the available context and collect the information needed for the next step.

Follow up in the CRM

Organise the opportunity, assign an owner and record its progress in your primary CRM. Keep the contact linked to connect outcomes that have attribution evidence.

Review the journey in Analytics

Compare responses and outcomes by available source, check data coverage and review spend if Meta Ads metrics are enabled.

Ad data with its coverage made clear

Connecting Meta Ads and importing metrics require enablement in ChatCol, an authorised account and the applicable Meta approvals. Capturing ad references in WhatsApp can retain partial information without that connection.

  • Complete campaign, ad set and ad details when the authorised connection can retrieve them.
  • Check missing details, partial coverage and the last update before making comparisons.
  • Calculate CPA and ROAS only with linked spend and outcomes from the same period; ROAS also requires the same currency.
  • Sync segments with Meta audiences only when that capability is enabled, authorised and meets the applicable requirements.

Decisions after the click

Use ad context alongside your sales team's work to identify where the lead journey needs attention.

Find enquiries awaiting a reply

Review response opportunities from ads and human reply times to identify where your team needs to step in.

Compare campaigns with linked data

Group by campaign or ad when those details are available and review which enquiries have associated sales outcomes, alongside report coverage.

Prepare the next contact

Review the source, notes and sales stage before following up. Segments can support advertising audiences when synchronisation is authorised and available.

Questions about Meta Ads and WhatsApp

What ChatCol can show and what depends on your data and Meta.

What are Click-to-WhatsApp ads?

They are Facebook or Instagram ads that let people open a WhatsApp chat. When the person sends a message, ChatCol can receive the conversation and retain the ad reference that Meta provides.

Can I connect Meta Ads as soon as I create an account?

Creating a ChatCol account does not guarantee an ad account connection. The integration and metrics must be enabled, the ad account must be authorised and Meta must have approved the applicable access. Contact ChatCol to check availability for your account.

Are all clicks and conversations attributed to an ad?

No. Attribution depends on the references Meta provides and their links to CRM outcomes. A click without a message, an organic conversation or a missing source does not become an attributed ad conversion. The report shows the available coverage.

When do CPA and ROAS appear?

When ad metrics and the CRM are up to date, with comparable spend from the same ads linked to outcomes over the same completed period in the account's time zone. CPA requires positive net conversions; ROAS requires revenue in the ad account's currency. If a requirement is missing, the affected metric is shown as unavailable.

Can I create and publish ads from ChatCol?

This integration focuses on conversation sources, follow-up and reviewing outcomes. It does not include an editor to create or publish ad campaigns. Syncing segments with Meta audiences is a separate capability, subject to enablement, authorisation and Meta's requirements.

Do I need a connected ad account to retain the source?

The reference Meta provides with a WhatsApp message can be retained without connecting an ad account. Completing ad details and reviewing spend require an authorised connection and the corresponding capabilities to be enabled. Information may still be partial.
